Overview

In Napa County, the understanding and management of water resources is a collective efforts contributed from different agencies. Here is an overview of the role of each one.

Napa goverment agencies

Napa County Flood Control and Water Conservation District

  • Mission: Conservation and management of flood and storm waters to protect life and property.
  • Responsibilities: Maintaining the county watershed using environmentally sound practices and providing coordinated planning for the community's water supply needs?.
  • Additionally, this district sponsors the Napa River Flood Management Plan and oversees water supply contracts, watershed management, and stormwater management programs throughout Napa County?

Napa County Public Water System Program

  • Goal: Ensuring safe and potable drinking water is available.
  • Responsibilities: Identifying risk factors contributing to acute and chronic illness and working alongside water system operators to minimize these risks?.

Napa County Groundwater Sustainability Agency

  • Authority: Granted by the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014.
  • Responsibilities: Managing groundwater sustainably in the Napa Valley Subbasin by enhancing local management through the development and implementation of a Groundwater Sustainability Plan.

City of Napa and Rural Districts

  • The city of Napa and rural districts are involved with water management, serving varying numbers of residents with different water sources

Napa County Resource Conservation District (Napa RCD)

  • Local non-government organization that provides service across forest health, agriculture, streams & habitats, and youth & community.

Napa County Watershed Information & Conservation Council (WICC)

  • Improve the health of Napa County’s watersheds by informing, engaging, and fostering partnerships within the community

Environmental Education Coalition of Napa County (EECNC)

  • Connects members of our community with the local environment. Through a network of local organizations, the coalition provides resources and support to promote sustainable living and to cultivate an appreciation of the natural world.

Friends of the Napa River

  • Friends of the Napa River (FONR) was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in early 1994. The organizers worked together through the years on many different concerns about the Napa River such as flood protection, boating, fishing, watershed restoration, trails, festivals, and riverfront development.
